- I
recently installed Apple Quicktime Software on my Windows 95 PC as provided
with a music CD. The software includes a picture viewer as you know.
After the installation, some to the pictures I've downloaded from the
internet or received by e-mail changed icons. They now have the small
white square with a red Apple logo in the center as their icon. When
I opened such pictures...they opened in the QuickTime picture viewer
window. Having seen the multimedia portion of the CD, I decided to remove
the QuickTime software. I have tried to uninstall the Apple files or
delete then. However, the icons on the pictures remain to be the Apple
symbol. When I try to open one it says VIEWER.EXE not found. Please help
me return them to their previous settings as they would open before
without QuickTime.

-
- I put the CD
in my computer's CD ROM drive and nothing happens. How can I see the
CD EXTRA?
-
- In order to access
the multimedia, you need to have updated CD ROM drivers. Please check
the CD-ROM Drivers section of Technical Support.
-
-
-
- Why do I have
to install a new driver to listen to a CD?
-
- Unfortunately there
exist some computer models whose combination of CD-ROM drive, firmware
and driver software do not comply to the standard CD specification which
includes playback of blue-book formatted CDs also known as CD EXTRAs.
The disc in question complies with the standard - your system most likely
does not. Therefore you should contact your manufacturer about a potential
remedy for the situation. You should check out the windrivers.com
website. This is typically a great resource for the few cases like yours.
-
-
-
- I went to
www.windrivers.com and I can't find my drivers.
-
- You tried to search
for the appropriate driver corresponding to your system's CD-ROM drive
and were unable to find it. The next logical recourse is to contact
your CD-ROM drive manufacturer directly, or alternatively, to contact
your computer manufacturer.

-
- I like to listen
to CDs on my computer. How can I just hear the music without seeing
the CD EXTRA?
-
- When you place
your CD in your computer's CD ROM drive, you should be greeted by the
CD EXTRA MENU. Simply press the PLAY MUSIC button. If Play Music does
not work, which is the case in a small percentage of computers, including
those with Windows NT, simply press the X in the upper right hand corner
to close the window. Use the Start menu to find your CD Player. Typically
this is found in Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Multimedia -> CD
Player.

-
-
- Everytime I
try to access the CD EXTRA, my machine crashes, and needs to be rebooted.
What is the problem?!
-
- Certain hardware
configurations seem to be having major trouble running the version of
Quicktime (16 bit, 2.1.X) we have included. We noticed the Dell 350
Mhz Pentium II in particular was having severe problems. We assume that
other machines will have similar trouble. We would appreciate you writing
to us so we can learn where exactly the conflict is. Please include
as much relevant hardware as you can gather. This includes Audio Card,
Video Card, Processor, Manufacturer, etc. Unfortunately we don't have
a solution for you at this time, but your information will definately
help us to provide one in the future.

-
- I am running
Windows NT as my operating system and I can't see the multimedia.
-
- This disc is not
fully compatible with Windows NT. To take full advantage view it using
Mac, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95.
-
-
-
- I am running
Windows NT and I just want to listen to the music.
-
- After placing the
CD in your computer's CD ROM drive, if the CD EXTRA menu appears, click
CANCEL. (PLAY CD will not work) Then find your CD Player application,
which is typically found in Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Multimedia
-> CD Player.
-
-
-
- I can see the
multimedia, but I can't see the videos.
-
- You need to install
QuickTime for Windows, included on the disc. Just launch the QTINSTAL.EXE
in the QTW_211 directory and follow the on screen directions.
-
-
-
- I already have
the 32 bit (Windows 95) version of Quicktime and I can't see the movies.
-
- The problem is
that CDEXTRAs are programmed to run on Windows 3.1 as well as Mac and
Windows 95. Because of this, all of the executable modules are 16 bit.
This means that they will not play Quicktime if you ONLY have the 32
bit version. Included on the disk is the 16 bit version 2.11. It will
install and reside on your system without affecting your existing Quicktime
(32 bit). To install, the instructions say to go to the D: drive. The
D drive simply means that you should look for that folder on the CD-ROM.
Go to "My Computer", and double click whatever letter drive your CD-ROM
is. Then go to the folder QTW_211, find QTINSTAL.EXE, and double click
that. The installation program will take care of the rest. Everything
should work fine after you install this QT.

-
- My CD will not
play in my home stereo or my car stereo.
-
- Although we built
the CD to manufacturer's specifications, not all manufacturer's adhere
to the standard. Please send us a comment at http://www.cdextra.com/html/signup.html
listing your problem, the manufacturer of the stereo and the model number.
We will attempt to contact the appropriate people.

-
- I cannot see
the CD on my Macintosh computer.
-
- You should definitely
be able to see the multimedia without problem. First make sure you have
the latest CD-ROM drivers for your CD-ROM drive, most likely Apple CD-ROM
version 5.3.4 available from Apple's web site.

-
-
- I just want
to listen to the music on my Macintosh.
-
- Have you tried
launching the mac CD player with the compact disc in your CDROM drive?
Even if the data session of the CD-ROM is mounted on your desktop, the
CD player should see the audio tracks.
-
-
-
- I can't access
the hidden track on TOAD THE WET SPROCKET.
-
- Access and instructions
to the hidden track can be found at the Toad website, www.houseoftoad.com.
If the internet route is impossible, go into your windows explorer,
choose the views menu option, select show all files and apply. The hidden
track is an audio only QT movie, silo.mov, (requires QT for Windows
software) located in Toad/Td_ic/ directory.

- Here is what you
need to do.
-
-
- Open Windows
Explorer - From "View" menu choose "Options"
- Click on "File
Types"
- You'll see
a list of "registered file types"
- From this
list, find the files that are still being opened with the Quicktime
viewer.
- For example,
let's say "JPEG image" is one such file type. Click on "JPEG image".
- Click the
"Edit" button.
- An "Edit File
Type" window should appear. Under "actions" click on "open". Then
click the "Edit" button.
- An "Edit Action
for File Type" window should appear. Under "Application used to
perform action" you should see the path to the Quicktime viewer.
- Click "Browse"
button, find the application you really want to use to view these
images and click OK.
- Click OK to
close the "Edit Action..." window.
- Click "Close"
on the "Edit File Type" window to close it.
- Repeat this
step for each file type you want to re-associate in the "Options"
window.
-
- Not that it's
any consolation for you, but more recent versions of Quicktime which
we now include on the CD EXTRAs do not cause this problem.
